DeRusha Eats: Grower Champagne
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- If you're of age, you'll probably be ringing in New Year's Eve with a glass of bubbly.
But instead of picking your usual champagne, why not try something unique from small family farmers.
Grower Champagnes are all about wanting you to drink farmer fizz.
You've probably never heard of the following three champagnes, and that's part of the fun.
It's about small farmers who do it all -- from grape to bubbles.
"With champagne we tend to put our blinders on and buy what I've always bought," Jason Kallsen said.
Marc Hebrart Brut is a blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, from one family's crazy patchwork of farmland.
"This is from 38 acres spread out over 68 parcels," Kallsen said.
It costs around $35, cheaper than most French champagnes.
Next up -- the Gimonnet Special Club 2004 for $100.
The last wine is Rene Geoffroy Rose' de Saignee another delicious unique wine, made from Pinot Noir grapes.
"With Grower Champagne you're going to be getting an expression of a place, rather than the expression of a brand," Kallsen said.
