DeRusha Eats: Andrew Zimmern's New Food Truck
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- There's a late entrant in the food truck game with a big name.
"Bizarre Foods" host Andrew Zimmern lives in the Twin Cities and just launched the AZ Canteen.
There's no bugs on this truck, but there are veal tongue sliders. And theyr'e amazing – two for $9.
You're not going to see Andrew on the truck. Instead, you've got the skilled Mateo Mackbee, the Canteen manager who's cooked at 20.21 and Sun Street Breads.
The Cabrito Grinder sausage is the signature item.
Cabrito means little goat, but it's a lot of goat, with a great snap. It's served on a toasted baguette, with a minted cole slaw, roasted red pepper, tomato relish and herbed veggie mayo.
The same goat meat is in the Cabrito Burger, which is simple lean perfection on a pretzel bun.
"The seasonings are great," Matt DeGlopper said. "The meat speaks for itself."
This truck isn't good because it has Andrew's name on it, it's good because the food is so well imagined, and so perfectly prepared.
