Deputies ID'd In Becker Co. Pursuit, Shooting
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Two deputies involved in a Becker County 10-mile pursuit and shooting have been identified and remain on administrative leave.
On Friday, Ty Justin Andree, 23, of Bemidji was taken into custody after fleeing deputies who attempted to stop him when they linked his car as one involved in a previous crime.
Deputies believed Andree's car to be the same one involved in theft from a Detroit Lakes liquor store, officials said.
According to the Minnesota Department of Public Safety, the deputies attempted to stop Andree at Becker County Road 37 near Shell Lake, Minn. Andree then fled the officers, but they were able to disable his car with spike strips after chasing him for roughly 10 miles, officials said.
Once the car stopped, Andree got out and approached the Becker County Deputy and Hubbard County deputy with a gun.
On Tuesday, those deputies were identified as Becker County Deputy Dan May and Hubbard County Deputy Shane Plautz.
May and Plautz took cover behind the squad cars, and Andree got into the Becker County squad car and fled the scene in the stolen car as officers fired their weapons at the suspect, the Minnesota Department of Public Safety report said.
The stolen squad car was then disabled by other officers down the road.
Andree was transported to St. Joseph's Hospital in Park Rapids, Minn. where he was treated for minor injuries.
No officers were injured during the incident.
On Monday, Andree was charged with first-degree burglary and there may be other charges related to the pursuit and shooting.
Both deputies have more than 10 years of law enforcement experience.
