Denver Edges Minnesota State, Mankato 4-3
MANKATO, Minn. (AP) — Sam Brittain stopped 33 of 36 shots on goal to lead Denver to a 4-3 win on Friday over Minnesota State, Mankato in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association.
MSUM outshot the third-ranked Pioneers 36-20. But Brittain finished strong after giving up two second-period goals. He stopped 17 shots in the second and 13 in the third.
Dan Doremus' goal at 13:54 of the third was the game-winner.
Nolan Sajac had a goal and assist for Denver.
J.P. Lafontaine had two goals and an assist for the Mavericks (3-4-2, 1-4-0), who haven't beaten Denver since the 2007-08 season.
