Democrats Endorse Melin In NE Minn. House Race
ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) -- Northeastern Minnesota Democrats have endorsed Carly Melin in a special election for a state House seat.
Cathy Daniels is the DFL chair for the 5th Senate District. She says Melin received the endorsement Saturday because the party needs an advocate for senior citizens and rural schools.
Melin released a statement saying she received support from more than 60 percent of the delegates at the endorsing convention, which was held in Hibbing.
Five Democrats have filed to run in Tuesday's primary. The winner will face a Republican and an Independence Party candidate in the Feb. 15 special election.
The House seat had been vacated by former Rep. Tony Sertich. He stepped down to join Democratic Gov. Mark Dayton's cabinet as commissioner of the Iron Range Resources and Rehabilitation Board.
