MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Allina Starr led DeLaSalle with 24 points and Tyseanna Johnson added 16 as the Islanders beat Richfield 65-45 on Saturday to win their second straight Class 3A state title.
Bryann Guyton scored 15 points to lead the Spartans, who were making their first-ever state tournament appearance. But the Islanders (28-3) held Jessica January, Richfield's leading scorer who had 44 points in the Spartans' first two tournament games, to 12 points on 3-for-16 shooting.
The Spartans (27-5) led 12-10 midway through the first half before DeLaSalle went on a 20-6 run. Richfield never recovered.
Richfield made one final push, pulling to 43-37 on Tasia Harris' jumper with 10:17 to play. But the Islanders outscored the Spartans 16-3 over the next seven minutes to seal the outcome.
