Deer River Man Pleads Guilty To Fatal DWI Crash
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A 29-year-old Deer River man pleaded guilty Tuesday to causing a deadly crash last fall.
The Itasca County Attorney's Office says Derrick Lee Cloud was charged with two counts of criminal vehicular homicide, a count of fifth-degree drug possession, third-degree driving while impaired, driving on a suspended license and a count of violating a restraining order.
Cloud pleaded guilty to one count of criminal vehicular homicide in a pending plea deal that would have him serve 50 months in prison.
He is accused of being intoxicated when he broadsided a Chevrolet Camaro that was making a U-turn on Highway 46 on Sept. 8, 2015.
Cory Jones, 27, and his 21-year-old passenger, Jaclyn Howard, were killed in the crash. Cloud had non-life threatening injuries.
