Deadline Approaches For Ice Houses On Most Minnesota Lakes
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – The ice fishing season comes to a close in most of Minnesota this weekend.
The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources says all ice houses must be off of lakes in the southern two thirds of the state by Monday night, despite the fact that the recent cold weather has left many still frozen into the lake.
The DNR says it could confiscate anything that's left on the ice after Monday and owners could be fined, including for trash.
It could be easier to remove those ice houses later this weekend – WCCO's meteorologists report warmer temperatures through Saturday and Sunday that could loosen up the frozen huts.
