DB & Punt Returner Sherels Has More Competition
MANKATO, Minn. (WCCO) -- Marcus Sherels has quietly made a name for himself, and turned into a veteran for his home state team.
In his fourth year with the Vikings, he's still not comfortable until he makes the roster.
"I have a lot more experience, and I'm much more comfortable knowing what to expect," he said. "This is a fast game – you have to be ready to work and to improve."
If he wants to stay on this roster, it's not just about being solid in the secondary, but about being the first-team punt returner yet again.
"He has a lot of competition for the punt return spot, as well as the nickel cornerback position," coach Leslie Frazier said. "But he's a resilient guy. He's battling like he always does. He's consistent and doing well."
He's no longer the young guy, either.
"I look around the DB room and I'm one of the older guys," he said.
