Dayton To Meet With Daudt On Possible Special Session
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Governor Mark Dayton will meet with House Speaker Kurt Daudt Tuesday to lay the groundwork for a special session.
The two are trying to work things out to avoid a partial government shutdown.
The regular session ended earlier this month, with Dayton vetoing the budget lawmakers sent to him. Without a budget in place, a partial government shutdown begins July 1st.
The big holdup was over education. Dayton wanted more money to pay for pre-school for 4-year-olds.
The governor and House Speaker have just a few weeks to reach agreements on five bills and get legislative leaders to sign off.
Only after that happens, will Dayton call a special session.
