Dayton Signs Bill Containing Tax Breaks, Mayo Expansion Fix
ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Quickly adopted tax legislation that provides breaks to tens of thousands of Minnesota taxpayers is now law.
Gov. Mark Dayton signed the bill Saturday when it landed on his desk. Lawmakers gave it final approval late last week.
Dayton's administration estimates that 200,000 people could benefit from new deductions or credits that they can now claim on both state and federal income tax forms. That includes teachers, families with a child in college and homeowners paying mortgage insurance. Some of the $20 million will be claimed by businesses that will get more filing flexibility.
The bill also corrects a wording problem that would have held up state dollars toward the Mayo Clinic's Destination Medical Center expansion.
