Dayton: Obama Did Right Thing On Insurance Plans
ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) -- Gov. Mark Dayton says he believes President Barack Obama made the right decision by letting insurance companies continue to offer consumers health plans that were set to be canceled under federal health care changes.
Dayton says Thursday his fellow Democrat "deserves great credit for keeping his promise to the American people." He says Obama's one-year extension will give consumers more time to make the right decision about the health insurance.
Officials at the Minnesota Department of Commerce, which regulates insurance companies, say they're working on implementing the change in Minnesota.
Representatives of the state's four largest private insurance companies did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
At least 140,000 Minnesotans received letters from insurance companies saying their policies were likely to be changed thanks to the federal overhaul.
