Dayton Mulls Next Steps On Child Care Union
ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Minnesota Gov. Mark Dayton says he plans to meet with the state attorney general to consider the next steps on a union push for in-home child care providers.
Dayton reacted Monday to a judge's decision to halt a union election he had called for this month. Dayton says he respects the decision but wants to confer with state attorneys before determining how to proceed.
Dayton has said he saw the union push as an exercise in democracy. Republicans fought him and some operators of private child care facilities sued.
A judge issued a temporary restraining order that effectively stops the push in its tracks. The judge says the Legislature should have a say in whether some child care providers become unionized.
