Dayton Appoints Deployed Navy Captain As Judge
ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) -- Gov. Mark Dayton has appointed a U.S. Navy captain serving in Iraq as a judge in the Third Judicial District.
Captain Ross Leuning is currently the Command Judge Advocate for the Navy, serving at the Al Asad Air Base in Iraq. Leuning is expected to return from Iraq and be sworn in this July. He places Judge John Chesterman, who is retiring.
Dayton interviewed Leuning over the Internet by using Skype. Leuning is also a Senior Assistant Olmsted County Attorney. He lives with his family in Owatonna.
The Third Judicial District serves Dodge, Fillmore, Freeborn, Houston, Mower, Olmsted, Rice, Steele, Wabasha, Waseca, and Winona counties.
