Date, Time Set For Gophers/Louisville Match-Up In Puerto Rico
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – The University of Minnesota announced Thursday the date and time has been set for the Gophers men's basketball team to face off against Louisville in the Armed Forces Classic.
Richard Pitino and the Gophers will face Rick Pitino and the Cardinals at 6 p.m. on Nov. 14 in a game that will be televised nationally on ESPN. It will be the second time Richard Pitino will go against his father on the basketball court. The first time around, his Florida International squad was handed a lopsided loss by Louisville.
In his first season with the Gophers, Richard Pitino won a school-record 25 games and helped lead the program to the NIT title. Louisville is coming off a Sweet 16 appearance after winning the American Athletic Conference regular season and playoff titles.
The Nov. 14 game is the opening night for college basketball around the country, and this game will be played inside the hangar at the U.S. Coast Guard Air Station Borinquen in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico. It'll mark the fifth time the two teams have met, and the Gophers won the last meeting 70-64 in Arizona in 2008. Minnesota leads the series 3-1.
