Dalai Lama Plans Private Audience With Minnesota Tibetans
ROCHESTER, Minn. (AP) — The Dalai Lama plans a private audience with members of Minnesota's Tibetan community on Wednesday in the same city where he has been receiving medical attention since last week.
The 80-year-old Tibetan Buddhist leader has been at Mayo Clinic in Rochester for what his representatives have called a routine checkup. He canceled his U.S. appearances for October after Mayo doctors advised him to rest.
His Washington representative, Kaydor Aukatsang, says aside from Wednesday's event the Dalai Lama is resting and has no public events scheduled.
One of the Dalai Lama's secretaries, Chime Rigzin, said over the weekend that he had no health problems and plans to return to Dharamsala, India, on Saturday.
The Dalai Lama has made regular visits to the Minnesota clinic in recent years.
