Customs: Opium Baskets Bound For MN
CHICAGO (WCCO) -- U.S. Customs in Chicago seized more than eight pounds of opium Monday in packages of wicker baskets that were headed to the Twin Cities.
Customs and Border Protection (CBP) K9, Allen, sniffed out the opium in two packages from Laos, according to a CBP press release.
After examining the baskets with X-rays, officers cut open the baskets and found a black, tar-like substance wrapped plastic. The substance tested positive for opium.
A total of 8.7 pounds of opium was found.
The sender and recipient are under investigation.
