Curiocity: Previewing Macy's Glamorama 2013
It's the summer's biggest fashion event in Minneapolis and this year, it's ready to shine even brighter.
Macy's Glamorama, with the theme, "Fashion In A New Light," will take over downtown Minneapolis this Friday with the music of Sheryl Crow, performances by Cirque du Soleil and of course, some of the biggest names in fashion showing off their fall looks.
Though it's only a one-hour show, the planning and preparation for Glamorama takes a full year -- once one show ends, planning begins on next year's.
The show uses 42 computers, 350 lighting fixtures, 12 projectors and 60,000 watts of sound.
On stage, 80 LED panels with moving video provide the backdrop, enhancing the looks and transitions of the strutting models.
Those looks include the fall lines of Jean Paul Gaultier, Philosophy, Rachel Roy, Tommy Hilfiger, Diesel and more.

- In more than 20 years, Macy's Glamorama has contributed nearly $5 million to Children's Cancer Research Fund.
- It takes six semi trucks to transport the show and party elements to each city -- Minneapolis, Chicago, Los Angeles and San Francisco.
- Nearly 150 outfits and pairs of shoes walk down the runway.
- Forty-two models from Chicago, New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco will participate in all four shows.
- The show requires seven days of rehearsals and more than 10 hours of model fittings.
- A team of 80 fashion professionals -- hair stylists, wardrobe stylists, make-up artists, etc. -- are on-hand to style all of the models for the show.
