Curiocity: Mike's Mix — The Gran Noel
Every Friday, Mike Augustyniak will be picking up a new cocktail recipe from a local mixologist. Throughout December, he's getting his inspirations from The Strip Club near downtown St. Paul. This week's selection will put some jingle in your bells.
Ingredients
Fill a tall (Collins) glass with ice and add:
1 ½ oz. Tequila
1 oz. Cranberry Syrup*
3 oz. Joia Lime Hibiscus Clove Soda
Top with fresh grated cinnamon or Easy & Oskey Autumn Spice Bitters**
Garnish with lime wedge
*Cranberry Syrup
In a saucepan, combine: 3 cups Fresh Cranberries, 2 cups water, 1 ½ cups sugar, 1 cinnamon stick, ¼ cup fresh squeezed Orange Juice. Bring to boil, lower heat and simmer for 15 min. Cool and strain.
**Easy & Oskey Autumn Spice Bitters
Using Easy & Oskey "Make Your Own Bitters" Naked Kit, add:
1 tsp Allspice, crushed
1 tsp nutmeg
¼ tsp mace
2 cinnamon sticks, broken lengthwise and again to shorten
4 additional cloves
Taste Test
Tequila for Christmas? It's not as crazy as it sounds, especially paired with the sweet homemade cranberry syrup recipe and clove-flavored soda. Both ingredients are bright offsets to the earthy taste of the reposado tequila that Dan uses. It's a well-balanced drink that might have hints of the tropics, but definitely isn't a margarita.
