Crow Wing Co. Plane Crash Victim ID'd
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Authorities have identified the man who died Sunday morning in a plane crash in Crow Wing County.
The Crow Wing County Sheriff's Office said Monday that Dan Steffen, 55, of Crosslake, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The plane's only passenger, 61-year-old Frederick Hammer Jr., also of Crosslake, suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Responders treated Hammer at the scene; he is expected to recover.
The crash happened shortly before 10 a.m. in Upper Whitefish Lake, which is near Crosslake.
Hammer's family extends their deepest sympathies to the friends and family of Steffen, the sheriff's office said.
The plane was described as a Sky Star Kitfox No. 4.
The Crow Wing County Sheriff's Office, the Federal Aviation Administration and the N.T.S.B are investigating the cause of the crash.
