Crews Pull Swimmer From Shakopee Lake
SHAKOPEE, Minn. (WCCO) -- A 17-year-old boy was pulled from a Shakopee lake Friday afternoon after reportedly being underwater for 30 minutes, as he had been swimming with friends, police say.
Capt. Jeff Swedin of the Scott County Sheriff's Department said the teenager is listed in critical condition at St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Shakopee and the boy's identity has not been released.
Authorities found the 17-year-old in about 8 feet deep of water in Lake O'Dowd after fielding a call about a missing swimmer at 1:45 p.m. Friday.
Police believe he was trying to swim across the lake to get on an island, before he went underwater, and that's when friends went to shore to call 911. The boy wasn't wearing a life jacket.
Nicholas Stolt saw the rescue effort.
"(Police) tried CPR in the boat," Stolt said. "And when they got him back here on land, they hooked up to a machine after doing CPR. I'm not sure if they got a pulse or anything."
The Shakopee Fire Department and Prior Lake Fire Department responded to the scene.
