Twin Cities Crew Says Boston Ice Dams 'Showed Up' Minn.
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- More snow is on the way for Boston as they inch closer to the snowiest winter of all time.
While this season has been a nightmare for the East Coast, all that snow and ice is giving a Minnesota business one of their best seasons ever.
The Ice Dam Guys packed up all their equipment last month and sent it to Boston with 36 employees.
Joe Palumbo has been in the ice dam business for 17 years, but has never seen anything like what Boston is experiencing this winter.
"I've always said Minnesota is the ice dam capital of the world, but they showed us up this time," Palumbo said.
He said business is already twice what he saw last year during Minnesota's record winter.
"They don't have a lot of ice dam removal companies, because they're really not necessary," Palumbo said. "This year, with just the shear amount of snow, no wind or warm weather would have helped them."
That's why the Ice Dam Guys are working around the clock for some very grateful homeowners.
"They've been so nice to us," Palumbo said. "So many of my guys have been invited in for dinner, out for drinks. We'll work in Boston any day, any year."
Palumbo is the only one from the business still here in Minnesota taking care of the administrative side.
He said he's working 20 hours a day, every day just to keep up with business.
While Palumbo has heard that other companies are charging high rates in Boston, he said their rates in Boston as the exact same as they are here in Minnesota.
