Crews Fill 50K Sandbags In International Falls

INTERNATIONAL FALLS, Minn. (AP) — Sandbagging is under way in the International Falls area of far northern Minnesota because of rising waters on Rainy Lake and the Rainy River.

The Koochiching County Sheriff's Office says volunteers have filled about 50,000 sandbags to protect homes. A department statement says there's been damage to docks and boathouses, but no confirmed reports of damage to any homes.

Voyageurs National Park has had to close over 30 campsites because all the park's docks and some of its boat launches are under water.

Thunderbird Lodge on Rainy Lake says its docks are under water.

Minnesota Highway 11 is closed due to water over the road near Loman, about 16 miles west of International Falls, due to flooding on the Rainy River, which runs along the U.S.-Canadian border.
