13 Crews Fight House Fire In Minnetrista
MINNETRISTA, Minn. (WCCO) -- Thirteen fire departments battled a house fire in Minnetrista, Minn., that engulfed a $1.5 million house in flames Friday afternoon.
Crews responded to the fire after receiving a 911 call at around 2 p.m. The house is located on Enchanted Island on Lake Minnetonka.
The Mound Fire Chief said that there is nothing left of the back of the house and that that information lead firefighters to think that the house exploded.
The cause of the explosion, however, is not known.
The family that lives in the house was not home when the fire began. The Minnetrista Police Chief said no one was injured during the fire.
Wendi Morical, a neighbor, said she called the family to tell them the bad news.
"I told them it's pretty much engulfed in flames and that there really isn't going to be much left of it," Morical said. "They were really despondent to hear that."
Morical was concerned that the fire would spread to her house, because there are no fire hydrants on the island.
"Everything has to be pumped in," she said. "So if it started on fire, it could be devastating for us as well."
Brent Williams saw it burn from his friend's boat. He and his friend called 911 and then took pictures from the water.
"You could feel the heat coming from the fire," Williams said.
Firefighters were not able to find two dogs that were supposed to be in the house.
CenterPoint Energy said it shut off gas to the home at around 3:30 p.m.
