Cretin-Derham Hall Track Star Shines On
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – There's something Cretin-Derham Hall sprinter Megan Linder tells herself every time she steps in to the blocks.
"Just, 'I believe I can do it.' It's kind of hard to say you can do it, because I'm a really humble person. I don't always say, like, 'I just gonna win.' It's never like that for me. It's like, 'Gotta believe it to achieve it,'" Linder said.
And what's not to believe? She broke Cretin's school record in the 400 as a freshman - in her very first race.
"I usually have times that I want to hit at each hundred. So now matter where people are, I just give it my all," she said.
Last year, as a sophomore, she won the state title.
"It's a little more pressure coming back for a second title, but I think it's just motivated me to train harder, do better, become the athlete I wanna be," she said.
This year, she was even faster.
"I think this year I really trained a lot harder than I ever have. And mentally, I've been preparing for this, so I'm really pleased with how it turned out," Linder said.
