1 Killed, 8 Injured In Multi-Vehicle Crash Near Airport
BLOOMINGTON, Minn. (WCCO) -- A fatal, multi-vehicle accident brought traffic on eastbound I-494 at Highway 5 near the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport to a standstill Thursday afternoon.
The crash happened just after 11:30 a.m. near Post Road, causing a major back-up. The road was down to only one lane for most of the afternoon, but has since reopened.
According to the Minnesota State Patrol, a 25-year-old driving a Chevy Suburban southbound on Highway 5 went through the median and struck a Lincoln Navigator heading north on Highway 5, head-on.
The Suburban then struck a Volkswagen Phaeton and Dodge Caravan that were also heading northbound on Highway 5.
Patrol Lt. Eric Roeske said a passenger in one of the vehicles was killed in the crash. Roeske did not release the name of the person nor did he say in which vehicle he or she was riding.
Eight other people were involved in the crash and received minor or non-life-threatening injuries.
