Craigslist Post Helps Couple Recover Lost Wedding Ring
EXCELSIOR (WCCO) -- A trip to the beach for some newlyweds took an ugly turn when one of them lost their wedding ring.
Kelly and Chris Konechne were married 11 months ago. According to Kelly, Chris seems to have a knack of misplacing the ring.
"The wedding day comes around and were getting ready for pictures and he starts to freak out because he can't find his wedding ring," said Kelly Konechne. "Eventually told somebody to go look in his truck and they ended up finding it so this is sort of a pattern for Chris -- lucky a lot."
On Sunday, Chris' luck ran out when he took his bride and friends to the Lake Minnetonka beach in Excelsior.
"We were going to rinse off in the water and throwing the football around and just looked down and noticed I didn't have it on anymore," said Chris. "We though the water was clear that day you could see down far we looked for probably an hour they dug up all the sand on the beach where we were and sifted through it and couldn't find it and couldn't find it."
Kelly didn't give up, however. The next day, she went to Craigslist lost and found and placed an ad.
Minutes later, Kelly got an email from Gary Michalski, who has been metal detecting as a hobby for five years.
"Gary emailed me and said that he had a waterproof metal detector and would be willing to come look for it," said Kelly Konechne.
They returned to the beach that evening and spent two hours searching the beach line and the water.
"Every time it hits you get your hopes up and you kind of get brought back down if it's a penny or a pop tab or something, "said Chris.
They were about to give up when they stuck gold with one last pass near the swimming buoys.
"All of a sudden, he said, 'oh, I got a good one' and he pulled up the shovel and there it was," said Chris.
Chris and Kelly said Mickalski's kindness and willingness to help lets them know there are still good people in this world.
By the way, Chris is no longer allowed to wear his wedding ring to the beach.
