Cottage Grove Man Gets 74 Months In Stillwater Bar Death
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A Cottage Grove man was sentenced to more than six years in prison in Washington County Court Tuesday after a September 2012 bar fight turned deadly.
Eric Richard, 22 was charged immediately after the September 2012 incident with second-degree homicide and first-degree manslaughter in the death of Adam McCloud. Richard assaulted McCloud at a Stillwater bar, and McCloud died of his injuries a few days later.
Richard pleaded guilty to first-degree assault on Aug. 23 of this year. According to court documents, Richard hit McCloud, 28 of Bayport, in the head at least twice at Smalley's Caribbean Barbecue & Pirate Bar.
McCloud's head hit the ground, causing several skull fractures and intracranial bleeding. That eventually caused respiratory failure. He was pulled from life support about a week after the fight. Police said they believe the incident started over a spilled drink.
He was sentenced Tuesday to 74 months in prison.
