Cottage Grove Man Arrested After Driving SUV Through House
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A 37-year-old man is in jail on suspicion of drunk driving and domestic assault after driving an SUV through a house in Cottage Grove early Wednesday morning following a domestic dispute, according to police.
Cottage Grove Police were called at about 2:19 a.m. to the 8100 block of Ideal on a report of an SUV that went through a house. When officers arrived, the vehicle had crashed through the garage, went through a family room and out the back of the house after smashing through a sliding glass door.
The driver then crashed through a fence and drove back into the garage before fleeing the scene, police said. The suspect was located a short time later hiding under a vehicle and was taken into custody.
Police later identified the suspect as 37-year-old Michael Aaby of Cottage Grove.
Police said Aaby was arrested for DWI and other offenses, including domestic assault. After an investigation, officers determined the man had been involved in a domestic incident with his wife before intentionally driving the SUV through his rented house.
Aaby is now at Washington County Jail awaiting criminal charges.
Due to structural damage, a condemnation notice has been placed at the home by the City's Chief Building Official.
