Coroner: Deer Hunter Died Of Natural Causes
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A 72-year-old hunter who died in Beltrami County this weekend did not die as a result of falling from his deer stand, according to a coroner's report.
Gene Berthiaume, of St. Paul, was found dead underneath the deer stand by members of his hunting party on Saturday.
Crews were dispatched to the woods off Pioneer Road Northeast in Woodrow Township. They administered first aid, but Berthiaume died at the scene.
Though county authorities initially reported that it appeared Berthiaume died as a result of the fall, the coroner's office said he died of natural causes.
Berthiaume's death was the second reported during the gun deer hunting opener. A Maple Grove man was reported dead after an apparent fall from a deer stand.
