Corn Palace Director Elected To Fairs Board
MITCHELL, S.D. (AP) -- The director of the world's only Corn Palace has been elected to represent South Dakota, North Dakota, Minnesota and Wisconsin on the International Association of Fairs and Expositions board of directors.
Mark Schilling was featured recently on Comedy Central's The Colbert Report show touting his Mitchell, S.D.-based Corn Palace. Now, he'll be one of eight zone directors on the IAFE board. His zone also covers Manitoba, Saskatchewan and part of Ontario.
The board position is a three-year term. Schilling has been active with several fair and tourism agencies and was recently appointed by South Dakota Gov. Dennis Daugaard to the state's Board of Tourism.
The Corn Palace drew national attention this fall when Colbert highlighted the drought's impact on its murals in a segment called "A Shucking Disaster."
