Cops: Brooklyn Park Man Kidnapped And Threatened To Kill Wife, Child
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A court appearance is set for Monday for a Brooklyn Park man charged with kidnapping his wife and embarking on a dramatic six to seven hour ride of terror before getting arrested in Washington County.
Chia Vang, 27, is charged with one count of kidnapping and two counts of making terroristic threats, in connection with the stalking, and ultimate abduction of his wife on Wednesday, police said.
Ramsey County Attorney John Choi said Vang tracked his wife and two kids to an Asian market in St. Paul earlier this week, where he forced his wife and youngest child into his car.
According to the complaint, a witness on Highway 36 called 911 when he saw the woman mouthing the words "Help me," while in the car. Vang also took his wife's cell phone, broke it and threw it out the window so that they could not be traced, the complaint states.
Vang threatened that he would pick up his two other children and "drive them towards Hugo, and kill them all in a car crash," according to the complaint.
Before he could do that, he was stopped and arrested in Washington County. Police said this all springs from an earlier incident when Vang had allegedly attempted to strangle and head-butt his wife, causing her to file for an order for protection.
Vang faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison and/or a $35,000 fine for the kidnapping charge, and each terroristic threat charge carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison and/or a $10,000 fine.
