Cops: 2 Men Arrested In Connection With St. Augusta Shooting
STEARNS COUNTY, Minn. (WCCO) -- Police have arrested and charged two men with first-degree assault after a St. Augusta victim was shot in the victim's home earlier this week.
The Stearns County Sheriff's Office said on Wednesday, Erik Magnuson, 30, of St. Cloud, and 21-year-old Jerod Jakel, of Sauk Rapids, entered a home on the 23000 block of 69th Avenue in St. Augusta. Allegedly, the victim owed the duo money. Jakel entered the home with a handgun and a bandanna over his face while Magnuson waited in the vehicle.
A struggle ensued over the handgun and it discharged, striking the victim in the abdomen, police said, as Jakel took two bags of meth before leaving.
While the victim was transported to the St. Cloud Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police tracked down Jakel and Magnuson in St. Joseph. The tandem admitted their involvement, and an empty holster, a sawed-off shotgun, meth and a bandanna were found in the car. Police were then led to the ditch where the two had thrown out the loaded revolver.
