Construction Starts Tuesday On Outlet Mall In Eagan
EAGAN, Minn. (WCCO) -- Tuesday a different kind of construction project gets underway. It's one that aims to create 2,000 new jobs in the Twin Cities.
Later Tuesday morning, city officials in Eagan will be officially breaking ground on a new outlet mall. Officials said the complex will cost $100 million to build. Construction crews brought in equipment that will will be used for the project on Monday.
Baltimore-based Paragon Outlet Partners paid nearly $6 million for 29 acres of land associated with the project. It's all part of an overall $14.5 million deal with Eagan that includes relocation of streets and utility lines as well as a new parking garage near the mall.
When it's finished, the new mall will have more than 100 shops when it opens late next year. Paragon plans to make it a six-building, open-air retail complex spanning more than 400,000 square feet. The project is expected to bring 2,000 jobs to the city as well.
Paragon officials said that the new mall will be marketing to customers who want designer brands on a budget. The nation's biggest mall, the Mall of America, is less than 10 minutes away. They will break ground on the project at 10 a.m. Tuesday.
They haven't said exactly what all stores will be in the mall but so far they have confirmed that GAP, Banana Replublic, and SAKS fifth avenue will all be there.
