Concert Held To Benefit Victims Of Cedar Avenue Fire
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The community came together Friday night to help piece together the lives torn apart by a devastating apartment fire.
On New Year's Day, flames ripped through a building on Cedar Avenue near downtown Minneapolis. The fire killed three men and left two dozen homeless.
At the Cedar Cultural Center on Friday, musicians played a benefit concert for the victims. Music filled the venue along with art inspired by the fire.
A Somali leader who's been working with the hurt and homeless survivors says the money raised is very much needed.
"We haven't collected much in terms of monetary funds, so we can help them pay for their rent, pay for their basic needs," said Mohomud Noor of the Confederation of Somali Community. "So there is a huge need, for example, we only raised $18,000 for the whole victim fund."
