Complaint: Man Recorded Video Of Girls Changing At Woodbury Gap
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A 24-year-old Columbus, Minn., man faces multiple charges for allegedly slipping his iPhone under a Gap changing stall door last month to record two girls changing.
Caleb Wolfgram faces two felony counts of interfering with the privacy of a minor, court documents say. He also faces a gross misdemeanor charge for interfering with privacy of a woman.
Authorities arrested Wolfgram on April 5, a criminal complaint says, the day after two 11-year-old girls told police they saw an iPhone appear from under a fitting room door at the Gap in the Woodbury Lakes shopping center. The girls described the suspect holding the phone as a man wearing dark-colored shoes with white laces.
That description was broadcast and officers reviewed surveillance video in the area. One area store employee said the suspect made a purchase at her store the day of the alleged crime. Credit card information showed the suspect to be Wolfgram. Moreover, an employee from another area store said she knew the suspect to be Wolfgram, because she went to high school with him.
After locating Wolfgram at the University of Wisconsin, River Falls, officers followed him to the Woodbury Lakes shopping center and arrested him there. When speaking with a detective, Wolfgram admitted to placing his iPhone under the Gap changing room door to record the girls on April 4, but he said the video only captured their feet. He also said he recorded video under a woman's skirt that day and that he tried, right before he was arrested, to record women in the bathroom stalls of the shopping center. No women, however, were in the bathroom.
Wolfgram told a detective, the complaint says, that he had developed a strong curiosity about female underwear and videotaping women (and girls) in compromising situations. He also said he knew that what he was doing was wrong.
Analysis of Wolfgram's phone found no images of the 11-year-old girls. But it did, according to the complaint, find images of a woman who was in the Gap store that same day. Surveillance video, moreover, captured Wolfgram standing behind her, appearing to put his phone under her skirt as she shopped in the kids section.
If convicted of all counts, Wolfgram could face a maximum penalty of five years in prison and/or a $11,000 fine.
