Community Remembers Fargo Police Officer Shot & Killed
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The community of Fargo, North Dakota is remembering an officer killed in the line of duty.
About 200 people gathered Thursday afternoon for a candlelight vigil to honor Fargo Police Officer Jason Moszer.
The 33-year-old was shot during a standoff Wednesday night. Moszer was a six-year veteran of the force and the first Fargo police officer killed since 1882.
"We've got the watch now, we've got to honor him. We've got to honor his memory and we're going to honor our profession and we're not going to quit and we're not going to back off," Cass County Sheriff Paul Laney said.
The suspected shooter is 49-year-old Marcus Schumacher. He was found dead shortly before dawn Thursday.
Police said they weren't sure whether an officer shot him or if he shot himself.
Schumacher had an extensive criminal history and even served time in prison for the death of a 17-year-old.
Moszer was a highly-decorated soldier who served in Iraq. He leaves behind a wife and 2 children.
