18-Year-Old Arrested & Charged In Columbia Heights Murder
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- An 18-year-old Minneapolis man who fled after allegedly killing a man over a cell phone in late January has been apprehended, according to the Anoka County Attorney's Office.
Authorities say Evan Denny is charged with second-degree murder in connection with the Jan. 24 killing of 20-year-old Mohamud Abdiwahab Hilowle.
According to the criminal complaint, the victim came to a house on Circle Terrace Blvd. late at night and then got into an argument with the people at the house over a cell phone. Denny then left the house and came back with a handgun. He then allegedly fired several shots at the victim, who died.
Denny fled but was taken into custody Wednesday.
"It is tragic that a young man lost his life because of an argument over a cell phone," Anoka County Attorney Tony Palumbo said.
Denny's bail was set at $4 million Thursday. His next court appearance is set for April 7, 2016.
