Coleman's Concerns On Target Center, Stadium Plan
ST. PAUL (WCCO) -- Mayor Chris Coleman and St. Paul Council President Kathy Lantry met with Gov. Mark Dayton Tuesday to outline several concerns regarding a Vikings stadium plan that would also include renovations to the Target Center.
Representatives from the city of Minneapolis made it clear last Wednesday that they will only support a Vikings stadium plan in Minneapolis if it includes a $150 million renovation for Target Center.
However, Coleman said that's not fair.
"Tying the Vikings Stadium to a Target Center renovation is unbalanced, inequitable, and against the best interest of the City of Saint Paul, the region and the State of Minnesota," said Saint Paul Mayor Chris Coleman in a press release.
Minnesota Wild Chief Financial Officer Jeff Pellegrom said while they believe in public support for stadiums, investing state funds needs to be thoughtful, without risking the appearance of the state picking "winners and losers."
Lantry added if taxpayer dollars are being used, it needs to be evenhanded, "where one region of the state isn't harmed for the benefit of another."
