Childress Not Losing Sleep Over Moss Decision
EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. (WCCO) -- Vikings Coach Brad Childress' popularity may be dwindling and it's hard to say if Wednesday's press conference did him any favors. One thing is for sure, he stands by his decision to cut Randy Moss, even if he isn't saying exactly why he cut him.
On Monday, after a loss to the New England Patriots, Childress had this to say about wide receiver Randy Moss.
"Do I regret acquiring him? Not at present I don't … no," said Childress.
But what the media and fans didn't know was that when Childress made that statement he had already made a decision to cut the Pro-Bowl wide receiver.
Wednesday, when he was confronted about hiding that bit of information, Childress had the following reaction.
"It's not an attempt to deceive. It's just a matter of letting the people know that need to know. The wheels were in motion in my brain for what had to happen," said Childress.
Childress's brain, or at least its decision making on and off the field, has come into question by fans more than any time during his tenure as Vikings coach.
The decision to cut Moss seemed as casual as punting on fourth down.
"It's probably the most unemotional decision I have made in this job here. It's just a matter of fact, what occurred," said Childress.
Childress ended the talk about Moss with saying that he can look at himself in the mirror and feel comfortable with his decision. He said he's not losing any sleep at night.
