Check These Affordable (Even Free) All-Star Game Events
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- We all know the All Star Game is coming and, of course, the tickets are really expensive. But you may not know that there are some free events and others that might just fit into your family budget.
Tickets to the actual All-Star Game at Target Field are going for $400 to $2,500 a ticket. Those top-dollar tickets are for seats in Champions Club, right behind home plate, were many celebrities are expected.
The Twins stress that there are affordable options. Tickets for some of the other events are going for a lot less.
And some events -- including one where you can see the All Stars up close -- are free. If you want to see the athletes free and up close, all of them will be riding in a parade going right down the Nicollet Mall (right past our downtown studios) starting at 1 p.m. Tuesday.
There's another free block party on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday that will take over a parking lot on First Avenue near Target Center.
"Starting at noon each day there will be all kinds of bands and demonstrations by celebrity chefs, including local chef Andrew Zimmernan," Twins spokesman Chris Isles said.
Another option is Fanfest at the Convention Center. Today, they were busy setting up some of the displays. There will be interactive games and appearances by baseball greats.
Fanfest tickets are $35 for adults, but at ticket broker Ticket King they're actually giving away some Fanfest tickets and selling others for just a few dollars.
"All you need is to come in here and we will get you what you need. It's not that it's not in demand, but it's not a high-priced event," Ticket King's Andrew Baydala said.
Another relative bargain: Sunday's double-header at Target Field that features up and coming stars and a celebrity softball game including celebs like Vikings' great Adrian Peterson.
"It starts about $40 dollars and good seats will probably cost you about $150," Baydala said.
Tickets on the secondary market for the Home Run Derby are going for $150 to $450. The most expensive seats are in the outfield because so many fans hope to catch a home run ball.
Another thing you may not have thought of when it comes to the All-Star Game: there will be major road closures starting from this Friday through the actual game. That is in addition to closures related to this weekend's Basilica Block Party.
