Chaska Police Identify Man Killed In Bar Fight
CHASKA, Minn. (WCCO) -- Bouquets of flowers now stand near the spot where 35-year-old Jason David Foster died. The Chaska man was stabbed multiple times around 1:30 a.m. Friday after a bar fight got out of hand.
According to those who witnessed the fight outside Kelley's Bar, located in the 500 block of Chestnut Street, Foster was among a group of friends who were attacked by at least three "strangers."
The witnesses said the strangers were in Kelley's Bar harassing a couple of women and were asked to leave. They were outside in the bar's parking lot when Foster and his friends left for the evening.
According to friends, one of the men in the group pulled out a knife and stabbed Foster several times. Police intend to charge 32-year-old Jesse James Rogers of Minneapolis with second-degree homicide.
Patrick Thompson is one of Foster's friends and said he wasn't one to cause trouble.
"Jason was a beautiful guy who would do anything for anybody. And that's it, he's awesome. It shouldn't happen like that," Thompson said.
Upon learning of Foster's death, friends rushed to parking lot where they embraced in tearful hugs. Some carried flowers to place near the entrance to the parking lot where Foster was killed.
T.J. McKenzie was in the downtown Chaska bar a couple hours before trouble erupted. He said he's not surprised his friend stepped in to defend two women.
"Outgoing, always a smile on his face. Wasn't a troublemaker guy like, he'd mind his own business. What happened last night with the girl, he was always standing up for women," McKenzie said.
He was a regular at the bar where Maria Montaine works. She said he was a wonderful guy.
"He was our number one guy. He was a gentle soul. He was lovable. he was the kind of guy that would do anything for you," she said.
The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and Chaska Police spent much of Friday combing the scene for evidence. The alleged attackers were taken into custody moments after the stabbing happened, and are awaiting charges.
"Hopefully, the guy who did this gets what he deserves," said Thompson.
