After Chase, Wis. Police Rescue Drunk Driving Suspect From Lake
MAPLEWOOD, Minn. (AP) — Authorities rescued a drunken driving suspect from a Wisconsin lake after they say she sped away from Minnesota officers who were trying to get her to pull over.
The officers who tried to make the traffic stop in the Twin Cities suburb of Maplewood early Thursday pursued the 35-year-old Blaine woman, authorities said.
Police in Hudson, Wisconsin, say they were told at around 2 a.m. that the driver was headed their way in a van with Iowa license plates. Authorities say the driver exited Interstate 94 and drove into Lake Mallalieu at a boat landing in Hudson.
Minnesota officers were able to get the woman out of the van before it went under. No one else was in the vehicle.
Hudson Police Chief Marty Jensen said the woman was taken to a hospital for her blood to be drawn and was then transferred to the St. Croix County Jail, where she is being held on suspicion of her fifth drunken driving offense.
