Charges: Woman Left Baby With Heroin User
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- An 18-year-old Minneapolis woman is accused of leaving her baby with an unconscious drug user, according to charges filed in Hennepin County District Court on Tuesday.
Kayla Marie Keezer was charged with child endangerment and faces up to one year in jail and a $3,000 fine if convicted.
According to a criminal complaint, Minneapolis Police were called to a residence after a report of an unresponsive male at about 8 a.m. Saturday.
When authorities arrived, they found an adult male unconscious who had been shooting heroin and drinking the entire night before. Keezer admitted she left her baby in the man's care knowing that he used heroin.
Officers at the scene found syringes with apparent heroin residue on the dresser in the bedroom where the man was found. Keezer told police she left her baby with the man at about 9 p.m. or 10 p.m. Saturday and would be back Sunday.
When she returned, the man was unconscious. Officers later found Keezer passed out as well, and she was eventually arrested.
