Charges: Woman Blew A .25 After Gas Station Crash With Kids In Car
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Police say a 47-year-old woman had a blood alcohol concentration of three times the legal limit after she was arrested this spring following a crash where two young boys were in her car.
Laura Faye Johnson Gill, of Eagan, faces two gross misdemeanor counts of driving while intoxicated and one gross misdemeanor count of child endangerment stemming from the May 29 incident, court documents filed in Dakota County show.
According to a criminal complaint, Johnson Gill crashed into the back of a car parked at an Eagan gas station in the middle of the afternoon.
When an officer arrived at the scene, the crash victim showed the officer a photo of how Johnson Gill's car had collided with hers. She also said that Johnson Gill tried to offer her a $500 check to settle the incident.
Before talking to Johnson Gill, the officer saw there were two boys in her car, ages 7 and 8.
When the officer spoke with Johnson Gill, she denied having had alcohol. However, the criminal complaint states she couldn't recite the alphabet, smelled of alcohol and failed at all the field sobriety tests she was asked to perform.
She also had trouble naming the two kids in her car.
At the police station, Johnson Gill compiled with a breath test after speaking with a lawyer, the complaint states. She blew a .25, well over the legal limit of .08.
Johnson Gill has several prior DWI convictions. Her last one was in 2000, when she was convicted of aggravated driving while under the influence.
If convicted of all the charges, Johnson Gill faces a maximum penalty of 3 years in prison and/or a $9,000 fine.
She is slated to appear in court in August.
