Charges: Woman Accused Of Assault Connected To Shooting
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A 40-year-old South St. Paul woman is accused of assaulting another woman for "snitching" of a suspect in connection with a recent shooting, according to charges filed in Dakota County Court.
Mary Beth Kaul was charged with aggravated first-degree tampering with a witness and second-degree assault in connection with the Oct. 25 incident.
According to the charges, police were called to a South St. Paul home that day on a report of an assault. When authorities arrived, a victim told police that Kaul asked to come over at about 3 a.m. When the victim arrived, Kaul's cousin called her into the front room of the home. Kaul and another woman asked the victim why she "snitched" about an August shooting in the area.
The victim was then shown photos of a police report from 23-year-old Nicholas Michael Mason whiel he was in the Dakota County Jail in connection with the shooting. Kaul then allegedly punched the victim in the face with a closed fist as many as 50 times, the complaint states. The victim had bruises around her eyes and marks all over her face.
The victim fell to the floor and was kneed in the face before being pulled by her hair and thrown down the steps of the apartment, according to the complaint.
The victim was told she would be beaten with a pipe if she didn't give something up, but told Kaul and the other woman she didn't have drugs or money. The complaint states they walked the victim to her home and said "there's more to come." The man in the apartment at the time of the assault said the two women had worse in mind for the victim if he wasn't there. The victim fears she will be assaulted again, according to the complaint.
Kaul, if convicted, faces more than 20 years in prison and $30,000 in fines.
