MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A burglary case in Anoka County was cracked when police followed a trail of stolen items to the accused burglar who was sleeping in a park, according to the Anoka County Attorney's Office.
Matthew Jacob Allen, 19, faces one felony charge of second-degree burglary and one misdemeanor charge of theft in connection to the Nov. 1 incident.
According to the criminal complaint, Allen was found sleeping in a park in Blaine. After using "significant" effort, law enforcement were able to wake him up.
During a consent search of Allen's possessions, law enforcement found items that did not belong to him, including large amounts of jewelry.
Authorities say that prior to locating Allen, a nearby residence and vehicle were burglarized. Items from the vehicle were found along a path to where Allen was sleeping and also found on him, according to the complaint.
If convicted, Allen could face up to 10 years in prison on the burglary charge and up to 90 days on the theft charge.
