Charges: Man Drove Drunk, Crashed Into St. Cloud Home
ST. CLOUD, Minn. (WCCO) – A 21-year-old St. Cloud man is accused of driving while intoxicated and crashing into a St. Cloud home, according to charges filed in Stearns County Court on Tuesday.
Kaleb Stewart Billig was charged with gross misdemeanor counts of criminal vehicular homicide or operation, DWI and driving after revocation in connection with the incident.
According to a criminal complaint, St. Cloud Police were called to a residence on the 2400 block of 3rd Street North at 8:35 p.m. Sunday on a report that a vehicle had crashed into a house. When authorities arrived, there was an empty Chevrolet Camaro that was partially inside the western half of the house.
A man who lives at the house told police he was hit by the Camaro as it crashed into the house, that he couldn't move his right leg and that his shoulder was injured. Bystanders at the scene had detained Billig until police arrived, and authorities said Billig appeared to be intoxicated. Billig admitted to police that he had been at a bar earlier and that he was intoxicated, the complaint states.
A child near the scene said he heard the crash, went outside and saw the Camaro had crashed into the house. The child told police he then saw Billig get out of the car and try to flee the scene. An adult female witness told police she was with Billig earlier and said he left the bar in the Camaro. Police also received reports that the car was "driving crazy" in the area and was "doing donuts" in a parking lot near the bar.
An investigation also revealed that Billig's license is currently revoked for a July 27 driving charge involving drugs and an Aug. 19 DWI charge.
If convicted on all charges, Billig faces nearly three years in jail and $7,000 in fines.
