Target Says Man Used Fraudulent Card In Texas
GEORGETOWN, Texas (AP) — Central Texas police have arrested a man accused of using a fraudulent credit card at a Target department store.
A Georgetown police statement Wednesday says Guo Xing Chen has been jailed on charges of fraudulent use of identifying information and credit card abuse. Police Capt. Roland Waits says the Houston man's activities were initially suspected of being tied to the huge Target credit data breach last year. Hackers stole about 40 million debit and credit card numbers and personal information for another 70 million people.
However, Waits says no indication has been found of where he obtained the fraudulent data and it's not believed he's responsible for initiating the Target data breach.
Chen is in Williamson County Jail with bonds totaling $40,000. Jail records list no attorney for him.
