Charges: Jail Deputy Finds Knife In Shoplifter's Crotch
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A 24-year-old woman is accused of stealing from a Fridley Walmart and hiding a knife, which was still inside its packing, in her crotch before she was arrested, according to charges filed Monday.
On Aug. 15, 2014, Fridley police officers were dispatched to the Walmart on the report of a shoplifting woman, later identified as Suzanne Marie Bradshaw. She had allegedly stolen from the Walmart on Aug. 11 and was accused of other trespassing incidents and thefts around the metro area, according to the complaint.
When officers arrived, they found Bradshaw in the women's bathroom where she was arrested. Officers then found a stolen electronic item inside her backpack and its packaging inside the feminine hygiene garbage, the complaint said.
Officers asked her if she had any weapons that could hurt the officers, but she denied having anything and was pat frisked. She was again searched before being taken to jail.
When they arrived at the jail intake, Bradshaw was turned over to an Anoka County Sheriff's deputy, who asked Bradshaw for a third time whether she had anything and that it would be a felony or gross misdemeanor to introduce any contraband or weapon at jail. She again denied having anything.
The detention deputy then searched Bradshaw and found a knife still in its packaging in her crotch. When asked about it, Bradshaw allegedly said, "It's for my protection," the complaint said.
Bradshaw, who has no known permanent address, now faces one felony count of introducing weapon into jail. If convicted, she could face up to five years in prison.
